Excellent
One of my daughters has used this for both her babies and recommends it highly. I purchased this for another grandbaby, she has dry skin/ezcema. If there is a problem with nappy rash or a problem area where a nappy rubs when a little one becomes more active, try this. It is more expensive than the usual brands but does last a long time as only a small amount is needed. Burts Bees are a lovely range for babies and adults. I ordered this from EcoHamster late Thurs evening, it arrived early Sat morning, excellent service.

Easy to use, even on the smallest of ears, quick and non intrusive so baby doesn't wake up! just as good on grown ups. Can't recommend it enough.

Essential kit for anyone with small children
I've been using a Braun thermoscan for four years since our first child arrived. I regard it as absolutely essential for the safe caring of children. With one of these, you can take a child's temperature accurately and in a couple of seconds, even if they are asleep.

Children can develop extremely high temeperatures very quickly. With one of these, you can accurately monitor the progression of the illness and check that the Calpol / Neurophen is doing its stuff. If the temperature doesn't respond to the medicine, that's a sign to monitor things more closely and get help if the temperature goes too high.

There's a bit of technique required to get consistent readings, but follow the instructions and you'll do fine. Basically you turn it on, place it in the ear, pull back the ear lobe and press the button til it beeps. It's usually worth measuring both ears - any significant difference between the two can mean an ear-infection on one side, or your technique needs checking! The battery seems to last forever so no worries there.

Contrary to Braun's advice, I've found you can re-use the disposable caps quite a few times (it could get very pricey if you didn't). A quick rub with a baby wipe gets them clean, though if you start to get inconsistent readings then try changing the cap.

We have 3 small children and there's no way I'd be without one of these, so very very strongly recommended to any parent.

Brilliant with kids
Forget old thermometers - if you have kids get one of these. It saves all the agony of keeping them still while a traditional or simple electric thermometer reads the temperature. Just make sure you buy the spare disposable caps on Amazon when you get the machine.

Pretty, but unreliable I also found the Grobag Egg to be very unreliable. We just happened to have another thermometer in the room, and the two never agreed, with the Grobag Egg sometimes showing quite unlikely readings (usually too high).

On the positive side, if the room does go too cold (and the egg feels like showing it), the blue light is actually bright enough to wake you up, but as it's so hard to decide whether it's giving an accurate reading, even that is a bit useless. Looks pretty as a night light, though.

Egg-cellent Product I purchased an Egg for my little boys room over a year ago. The product has worked for 24 hours a day, seven days a week since we plugged it in - we never touch it and it has been fine. We have had some power cuts and it just comes back on again afterwards and has been great. It looks really funky in his room and is very useful at night-time as we can just pop our head around his door and instantly check the room temperature without disturbing him. We checked the temperature against some other digital thermometers and we found that all vary by a degree or two, depending upon how they have been calibrated. We have found our Egg to be quite accurate and certainly as a quick visual temperature indicator has been very helpful.

Amazing piece of equipment! My husband and I purchased this piece of equipment and were rather dubious as to whether or not it would work. However, we were happily surprised to discover that we could clearly hear the sound of our baby's heartbeat, alongside hearing some movements. It's been great for my husband, as he hasn't felt the baby kicking yet. It has also put my mind at ease, on the days when I haven't felt the baby move. I would definately recommend it to everyone!

A great product! I bought this when I was 17 weeks pregnant,but hadn't had any antenatal appointments since I was 10 weeks. I was able to find the heart beat straightaway and it was really reassuring to hear the baby kicking and moving about! My two older boys really enjoyed listening too (and to their own heart beats) and even my sceptical husband appreciated it! The only slight negative is that it is made cheaply in China (hence bargain price) and all the instructions are in rather hilarious English, "do not use near flammable anaesthetics" !! But a good value product nevertheless.
